Easter inspiration and more with Karen

Hi everyone,

I am so very happy to be back on board here at Manor House Creations. I have had a few medical issues over the past 12 months, and ended up having to have spinal surgery in August last year. It has been a long, drawn out recovery, but, finally, now, I can say ‘I’m almost all healed’ and ready to get back into doing what I love.

I have 2 layouts to share with you today. As Easter is just around the corner, I thought Id share with you a cute Easter layout I did recently, featuring some pretty Manor House flowers, along with an adorable photo of my little boy, Jack…

This second layout is a bright, summer inspired layout, again, featuring some photos of my son Jack.

I sprayed the white cutie pie flower with a bright orange mist. Manor House flowers take ink so well, ensuring you always have a flower to perfectly match your project.

Easter Cards by Sonia

I love making Easter cards as the vintage feel seems to suit the celebration perfectly! I had a play with some of the gorgeous Manorhouse Creations flowers and Believe Collection papers to create these two cards:

For the Happy Easter ‘Bunny’ card I used the beautiful ‘Letters from Paris’ flowers that fitted in perfectly with the vintage Bunny image:

Products used: Flowers - Letters from Paris, Tea Rose in Soft Gold, Springtime in white and Rose Leaves (medium)

For my second card I used one of the beautiful Ornate Frames and altered it using heat embossing (see below) to give it a textured finish:

Products used: Papers – Believe Collection Us Together, Lace, Elements cards. Flowers – Letters from Paris, Tea Rose in Soft Gold, Poetry in Sage, Rose Leaves (Medium). Embellishments – Ornate Frames Flourish in white

The butterfly is from the Believe Collection ‘Us Together’ paper. I have used Distress markers in ‘Mowed Lawn’ and ‘Mustard Seed’ along with a water pen to colour the cut out butterfly image.

Now just because the Ornate Frames are made of paper, don’t be afraid to alter them! I heat embossed mine with an antiquing powder to add texture. First cover the frame with embossing ink and then liberally cover with the powder:

Shake off the excess powder and use a heat gun to heat emboss. Just remember that you are working with paper so keep the gun moving and don’t let the paper get too hot:

Once the frame has cooled down, use a mixture of inks to add to the vintage feel of the frame – I used a mixture of brown, black and gold.

Happy Easter creating everyone :)

Romantic Tag Set by Cathy Cafun

Posted on

Hi Ladies, today I have 2 shabby chic tags to share.

I was inspired by the My Minds Eye In Bloom 6″ paper pad, which has a romantic soft and dreamy feel to it.

Blog MHC Shabby Tag Set

Dream Tag

For my 1st tag I chose a pretty floral pp which I contrasted with a cream pp.  I framed the floral pp with a pretty stitched ric rac trim, then machine stitched around the edges.

Blog MHC Shabby Tag - Dream

I also used the cream pp to cut out a floral wreath diecut, cut off one end and embellished the diecut with a white Solitude flower and cream Minuette flower. I altered the Solitude flower with a couple of shades of mists, painted on with a small brush, a touch of gesso and a pearl brad for the centre.  The white minuette flower was altered with a touch of saltwater taffy mist added to the flower centre with a brush.  Finished off the flower cluster with some large cream leaves and a twine bow.

Love the flexible words!!  The white is so versatile, as it can be altered to match the colours of your project, which I did here with 2 shades of mist, to give the word a pretty mottled effect.

MHC Product: Solitude-white, Minuettes-pink mix, cream leaves large, Flexible Words-dream white.

Love Tag

For the 2nd tag I went with a similar design, but changed it up a little. I chose a floral pp in a larger design and contrasted with a soft pink pp.  I framed the floral paper with an antique ric rac from my stash, then machine stitched around the edges.  The wreath diecut was backed with mesh and the flowers topped with pearls.

Blog MHC Shabby Tag - Love

The larger cream flower on my tag came from one of the Value Packs, which as the name suggests are fantastic value!!  I altered the edges of the flower with mist and gesso, then dabbed a few drops of pink on the stamens.   To create the sweet open blossom, I altered one of the mini blush roses by opening up the petals, pulling out the centre bud and replacing the bud with a pearl brad.

A beautiful Friendship by Trudi Harrison

Hi Everyone!

Trudi here with you today sharing the creative process for a little background altering.

So grab a sheet of ‘neutral’ patterned paper, a few of your favourite ink sprays, a 12 x 12 mask or two, some gesso, impasto or texture paste, and a texture stamp with ink and let the fun begin!

I have used the MHC Believe paper ‘Make Believe’ for the base of my project. A little tip I have found to be helpful is to reinforce the patterned paper with a 12 x 12 piece of chipboard/greyboard or sturdy piece of cardstock. This helps with stopping the paper from ‘buckling’ when the media is applied.

Believe - Make Believe BEL-04 web

Position a 12 x 12 mask ( I used Kaisercraft Chevron) over the paper and spray randomly over the top with black colour spray ( I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine).

Carefully remove the mask and allow the masked area to dry.

Apply some white gesso over the top. I applied with a stiff piece of cardboard and swiped it over. Try pushing the cardboard up and down into the applied paint to add a bit of texture. Allow to dry.

Add some extra masked detail – I used a Twiddleybitz Dots Stencil and Impasto Paste.

Now add some colour with some ink sprays – I spritzed over the top with Dylusions Cherry Pie and then Heidi Swapp Mustard Color Shine.  Another little tip is to let each colour dry before adding the next.

Here is what my background now looks like:

Background effect 1

I also added some random stamping over the top – I used a Kaisercraft Texture Diamonds Clear Stamp with Black pigment ink.

Background effect 2

I built on this by adding some fussy cut floral elements from Graphic 45 12 Days Of Christmas ‘Rose’ paper, Twiddleybitz chipboard and of course some Manor House Creations blooming beauties:

Floral clusters were created with Cinnamon Colourwash, Concerto, Minuette, Blueberry Imagine, Tweeny Weenies Roses, Petite Rose and Red flowers from the Belle Layout Pack.

Petals were separated from the large colourwash flower and layered underneath the smaller blooms. White roses were spritzed with Lindy Stamp Gang Flat Fabio – Kissin’ Kenickie Coral with the petal tips dabbed with metallic gold paint.
