Step x Step with Melinda – Creating Texture

Posted on

Hi Everyone,

Its Melinda back with you today to share a step x step project with you.  I wanted to share a few different ways you can add a little more to your layouts.

“Adore”

Melinda Thompson - March 2013

Step 1 – I start off my layout by adding a little texture and dimension to my background.  Here I have used some modelling paste and a 6 x 6 Crafters Workshop template.  I have just randomly spread the modelling paste in a few different places.

Step 1 Step 2

Step 2 – Washi tape is another product I love to use to add extra visual interest to my layout.  Not only does it look effective, its quick and easy to add to your layout.  Here I have added a strip of paper to the centre of my background and some washi tape over the top.  I have then used some turquoise mist, sprayed in a few places and let the excess drip down the page.

Step 3

Step 3 – For more texture to your layout, add in some fabric.  Here I have used a strip of aqua spotty fabric which had some loose fibres and crinkles to it (no ironing here!!).  Then I begin my paper layers.

Step 4

Step 4 –  All my paper layers are distressed.  By distressing your paper, even adding in a few nicks and tears, this will lift your paper off your page.  Look for patterns and shapes in the paper range you are using and do some fussy cutting.  Here I have cut out some hexagon shapes and added some foam dots underneath to lift them off the page.   Chipboard or in my case a Studio Calico wood veneer frame is also another effective way to draw the eye to your layout.

Step 5

Step 5 – Then the fun begins, sifting through my MH flower stash and finding all different styles of flowers and textures to finish off my layout. I love to cluster, so pulling flowers apart and tucking little pieces under bigger flowers creates a wonderfully balanced layout.

Step 6

A few closeups… ink splatters, buttons, twine and butterflies are just a few more different ideas you can add to your layout that will give it that something ‘extra’.

Shabby chic ‘off the page’ with Elena

Today, we have a stunning, shabby chic, spring inspired creation from ELENA. This beautiful key holder is so so pretty, we love the fresh green tones, with just a touch of Gesso, to give the whole piece a gorgeous shabby feel.

ElenaOTPMain

Elena tells us a little about her project ‘When I found these polka dots Maja Design papers, I definitely knew they would be perfect to use with the Mayglo – green flowers

ElenaOTP1

I adhered the papers to the wooden box and started adding the embellishments and flowers. The white Meadows flowers add a lovely soft touch, while the Green Mayglo adds a spring freshness.

ElenaOTP2

I just added a bit of gesso on the flowers and over the papers to maintain the shabby look of this box.’

Wedding stationary and cards galore

Hello, and welcome to our blog on this lovely Saturday morning.

We have some wonderful cards to share today, including a lovely ‘tropical inspired’ wedding stationary set from NANCY. We love this idea, and with our huge selection of flowers, you could create this stationary set to suit any wedding scheme imaginable.

nancy - wedding stationary 1

Nancy has tucked in half cut flowers under the name cards etc.  So just a few packets should be enough to do the entire number stationery required.

photo 1

Nancy has added little shells on the MHC flowers to complement the tropical theme.  Beach weddings are very popular at the moment, and this concept could be adapted to suit the flower theme of the wedding.

Below is a menu card or (whatever is needed) and a thank you card to complete the task of wedding stationery set.

Next up, is a beautiful shabby chic card, designed by TIFFANY. We love all the pretty layers on Tiffany’s card, and the lovely mauve tones of the Springtime and Dahlia flowers are the perfect addition.

GWEN created this soft, and delicate blue and grey card set. The sentiments are quite general, allowing you to use these cards for any occasion

Gwen-CardsetBlue-TreasuredMemory

Gwen has added ‘Tide pool’ coloured Glimmer glam to the Christmas – Angelic flower, to give it this brilliant aqua colour. One of the great things about the paper flowers in the MHC collections are their ability to take sprays, and inks.

A layout and a calendar page

Hi there – I hope you’ve had a great week :)

It’s Linda here today to share a couple of recent creations using the scrumptious Manor House Creations flowers.

First of all for the month of March I created a Calendar page – inspired by my amazing fellow DT member Joanne Bain.

Linda-OTP-Calendar page

Linda-OTP-Calendar page-CUp3

Linda-OTP-Calendar page-CUp4

For my calendar page I’ve used MHC’s Capri Roses/Wild Rose Green/Powder Puff Citrus and Imagine Cocoa.

My second project is a layout scrapping a sweet memory from years gone by…..

This time I’ve used MHC’s Powder Puff Citrus – Red/Dahlia Mini White/Ashlee Blue/Celeste Pink and a Pink Glitter Rose.

I hope you’ll have a chance this weekend to get creative with your beautiful Manor House Creation flowers.

Bye for now….

Clustering Flowers with Trudi Harrison

Hi Everyone,

Trudi here with you today sharing some more Manor House floral beauty with you.

Life is Beautiful - Trudi Harrison

I love to embellish my pages by creating clusters of beautiful Manor House flowers. The flowers form the basis of the cluster with other elements incorporated to add detail and interest. Often my floral clusters will sit upon a hand cut, die cut or chipboard element.  Hand cut floral elements are always appealing to me as the make a great foundation for a cluster of flowers to sit upon.  The floral image peeking through with a little foliage creeping out around the edges as a lovely appeal. It also creates a layered 3 dimensional effect.

Positioning of floral clusters can draw the eye in to a focal point – By arranging the 3 clusters around the photo edges in a triangle formation,  the eye is drawn in to the photo.

Life is Beautiful - Trudi Harrison

For the larger cluster that covers the bottom left hand corner of the photo, I worked with Watermelon Rue, White blooms from Winters Song Fireside Glow, White Springtime and White Glitter Roses. The larger blooms were arranged in a triangle formation with the smaller white glitter roses tucked in to the top and the side.  A single Petite Rose positioned just away from the cluster balances the formation.

The smaller cluster over the bottom right hand corner of the photo consists of 3 blooms – again the larger white bloom is positioned first with smaller roses – glitter and petite, arranged to create a smaller triangle formation.

Just a couple of blooms at the top finish off the formation – again the smaller rose sits over the larger white flower.

Before I attach flowers in place, I always arrange the flowers beforehand. Larger blooms in the middle and work my way out with the smaller ones.
