Welcome back to one of our favourites!

Yes its a wonderful WELCOME BACK to one of our favourite designers.

* * *

We are so excited to have her back! I think she was probably our mixed media queen right from the start and we’ve loved every minute of her presence on the MHC team. How lucky we are to have her back again. We are such a friendly bunch here and we love our girls.

Of course, it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t start off with one of Melinda’s AMAZING creations, which always take my breath away. As will this one…her gorgeous new little boy is growing so fast! He’s crawling!!! Already!!! Time goes so quick….

Now isn’t this layout just precious as….

Melinda Thompson - March 2014-2 (1024x768)

Products used: Colourwash Double-ups – Jade, Vinettes – jade, Cottage garden, Fairy floss – soft pink, Shades – ivory, Ariel, Capri – gold.

We are so happy to have you back Melinda! (You can see why – wink).

Easter Bunnies

I hope you are all enjoying your Easter and haven’t overloaded too much on chocolate :)

I have my own two very cute Easter bunnies at home who are running around on a chocolate high!

Products used: Layout Pack Fabulous, Springtime in White, Vines and Ornate Frames Flourish in White

When I was adding my flowers to the Vine, I found two Springtime flowers were a bit too big for the cluster. So I removed the bottom two petals of one of my flowers to create a smaller version that balanced everything perfectly:

A little bit of Gesso softens all the colours and helps them blend together on the page:

If you are travelling please be safe and enjoy this special time of the year. Happy Easter!

Easter inspiration and more with Karen

Hi everyone,

I am so very happy to be back on board here at Manor House Creations. I have had a few medical issues over the past 12 months, and ended up having to have spinal surgery in August last year. It has been a long, drawn out recovery, but, finally, now, I can say ‘I’m almost all healed’ and ready to get back into doing what I love.

I have 2 layouts to share with you today. As Easter is just around the corner, I thought Id share with you a cute Easter layout I did recently, featuring some pretty Manor House flowers, along with an adorable photo of my little boy, Jack…

Karen Shady

MHC Products used:

Gelato – blueberry, Springtime – mauve, Mini Blush roses – soft gold.

This second layout is a bright, summer inspired layout, again, featuring some photos of my son Jack.

I sprayed the white cutie pie flower with a bright orange mist. Manor House flowers take ink so well, ensuring you always have a flower to perfectly match your project.

Easter Cards by Sonia

I love making Easter cards as the vintage feel seems to suit the celebration perfectly! I had a play with some of the gorgeous Manorhouse Creations flowers and Believe Collection papers to create these two cards:

For the Happy Easter ‘Bunny’ card I used the beautiful ‘Letters from Paris’ flowers that fitted in perfectly with the vintage Bunny image:

Products used: Flowers - Letters from Paris, Tea Rose in Soft Gold, Springtime in white and Rose Leaves (medium)

For my second card I used one of the beautiful Ornate Frames and altered it using heat embossing (see below) to give it a textured finish:

Products used: Papers – Believe Collection Us Together, Lace, Elements cards. Flowers – Letters from Paris, Tea Rose in Soft Gold, Poetry in Sage, Rose Leaves (Medium). Embellishments – Ornate Frames Flourish in white

The butterfly is from the Believe Collection ‘Us Together’ paper. I have used Distress markers in ‘Mowed Lawn’ and ‘Mustard Seed’ along with a water pen to colour the cut out butterfly image.

Now just because the Ornate Frames are made of paper, don’t be afraid to alter them! I heat embossed mine with an antiquing powder to add texture. First cover the frame with embossing ink and then liberally cover with the powder:

Shake off the excess powder and use a heat gun to heat emboss. Just remember that you are working with paper so keep the gun moving and don’t let the paper get too hot:

Once the frame has cooled down, use a mixture of inks to add to the vintage feel of the frame – I used a mixture of brown, black and gold.

Happy Easter creating everyone :)

My Mind’s Eye Pretty Things

I couldn’t contain my excitement when it was announced that Manorhouse Creations would be distributing the gorgeous My Mind’s Eye! They have always created amazing collections but I must admit to falling in love with the new Record It! Pretty Things Collection. In particular the 8 x 10 Word Art sheets just jumped out at me. Once I had them there was one major stumbling block – they were just too pretty to use! Every so often something comes along where I want to buy two of it – one to use and one to keep in my stash and admire (now I know I’m not totally alone in feeling like this LOL!) How pretty is this pack?

MME Pretty Things

I had previously bought some clipboards from Typo and knew that these gorgeous papers would be perfect for ‘dressing’ them up. This is the original clipboard next to one I had a play with:

Products used: My Mind’s Eye 8 x 10 Word Art Sheets Record it! Pretty Things, Manorhouse Creations flowers Concerto, Tea Rose and Rose Leaves

Now I had so much fun with this one that I couldn’t stop at one and kept going!

Products used: My Mind’s Eye 8 x 10 Word Art Sheets Record it! Pretty Things, Manorhouse Creations flowers Concerto, Tea Rose in Soft Gold, Floral Mix Arielle and Vinette in Chestnut

These are so simple to make and so much fun to have in your work area! Simply take your clipboard and use a Rusting powder to age your clip:

Once dry, I added a little bit of brown and black inks over the top of the rusting to add depth to the rusted finish. Next cover your clipboard with one of the Word Art Sheets:

I then stamped some ‘coffee rings’ onto the paper with brown ink followed by some misting:

Now your paper is nicely aged and distressed, it’s time to add in the fun embellishments! I wanted to pick up the gorgeous vintage tones of the paper along with the lovely pink in the flower image. Here are my two finished clipboards side by side (good job I made two because I think they are about to disappear into each of the girl’s rooms – they have been eyeing the clipboards up ever since I finished them!)

Happy creating!

Believe in Your Dreams

With school going back for another year I know I’m trying to give as many positive thoughts to my girls as I can. They seem to grow right before my eyes at the moment and I hope they grow in strength and confidence in themselves as quickly as they grow in height! I want them to dream big and then go for it :)

Products used: Flowers Letters From Paris, Floral Mix Arielle and Melissa, Tea Rose in Soft Gold and Shades in Pink. Embellishments Ornate Frames Flourish in Black, Flexible Words BELIEVE in black

When I was putting the layout together I became stuck on my flower cluster in the top left hand corner. I wanted a lighter coloured bloom that wasn’t too big. The Tea Rose was a perfect colour and it balanced out the one in the other cluster but it was a bit too big. So I just removed the bottom layer of the flower and it fitted perfectly!

See – suddenly you have the perfect smaller size of your flower. However don’t throw that bottom piece away (it’s too pretty!). I had two of the bottom pieces as I had the one from my layout and the one from the photo above. So I took the two pieces, removed the greenery from the bottom of one of them and then stuck them together to form another gorgeous little flower:

Add a little pearl and pop it away ready for another project!

Layout from Melinda and a farewell.

Welcome everyone. Today is a slightly sad day for us, as we say a ‘see you later’ to one of star designers and ‘Ladies of the Manor’ Educators – Melinda Thompson, as she leaves us for a while for the momentous occassion – the pending arrival of a little bundle of ...sleepless nights (LOL).  (Ok, not so funny at 3am!).

Melinda 300

She has created yet another one of her awesome layouts which includes some of her favourites things – mixed media, flowers and tearing. She is a master at it.

The rich black, gold and cream make such a stunning combination.

We are wishing her the absolute VERY best for the next few months, crossing all our fingers and toes that her little one arrives under the very best of circumstances and we can’t wait to see the photos!!! *hint hint Melinda*

We hope when life settles down again for Melinda and her family, she may, one day, be back again, scrapping up a flower-storm. We will REALLY miss you girl…… :(

Designer Inspiration with Trudi

Hi There Everyone,

Today, I would love to share with you something a little rustic with a shadow box compilation.

“Where flowers bloom, so does hope”

  wheelbarrow of hope

Gorgeous Manor House blooms fill this wheelbarrow of ‘hope’.  A Dark Teal Vine has been molded to fill the opening of the barrow; the wire stems make it easy to adjust. A scattering of Blueberry Petite Roses and Blueberry Gelato’s fill in the gaps.

wheelbarrow of hope detail 1

To compliment the rustic theme, the vine was altered with some gesso applied over the leaves and petals. Petite roses were sprayed with Mr Huey’s Sunset Color Spray and the Gelato’s misted with Heidi Swapp Bronzer Color Spray.

Fairies and Flowers

Hi Everyone,

Fairies and Flowers make for a beautiful, enchanting combination. Well, they surely do make the ‘inner girl’ in me smile.

I was so excited by the release of these smaller Manor House blooms. Sweeties, Shades, Tweeny Weenies with a touch of  Cherry Gelato were the perfect combination for creating a little magic.

Pastel Pink and Blue Sweeties from the mixed pack were incorporated. The softer tonings were intensified with a little misting. Mel’s Diner Glimmer Mist was used for the pink and Trunk Bay for the blue. A little Picket Fence Tim Holtz Distress Paint was then applied over the top.

White Shades were also lightly misted similarly. I went for more of a splotchy look for these. This was achieved by slightly compressing the spray applicator down and shaking it gently over the bloom. The ones altered with the Mel’s Diner Glimmer Mist were toned a little with the Picket Fence Distress Paint.

Gelato, Sweeties and Roses have been clustered together with Tweeny Weenies tucked in to finish off the floral arrangements.
