A flower of a different colour

Are you ready to take an inspiring trip through our Manor House garden today. Our designers have once again created some stunning pieces to share with you.

MHC have a huge variety of flowers, in just about every colour imaginable, but, even with so many to choose from, sometimes, you will find that you just dont have that ‘perfect’ coloured flower that you need. So, we thought we would show you just how easy it is to alter our flowers, ever so slightly, and very easily, to match any project, and any colour imaginable.

Firtly, Gwen has created a beautiful, heartfelt card, suitable for any occasion, and perfect for someone special. The pretty blooms frame the sentiment perfectly.

All our flowers take up ink so well, as you can see here, where Gwen has used Glimmer Glam to change the white ‘Ashlee’ bloom an impressive aqua colour. Notice how the blue edges of the Ashlee flower have given the flower a pretty, almost purple edge.

MHC Products used: Ashlee -white (glimmer glam added), Mayglo – pink, Meadow – white.

Karen is next, with a pair of pretty, shabby chic tags, made using the gorgeous Taniesha flowers. These flower sprays are just the perfect size for tags and cards.

Karen has used just a little Gesso on the edge of the petals on both the yellow, and mauve Taniesha flowers, to give them a more ‘shabby’ look.

Another beautiful, shabby card from Elena.

Elena had added just a hint of brown ink to the edge of the petals, to grunge them up a little, to better suit her card

We love these  2 adorably cute layouts by Nancy. Starring her 2 gorgeous babies.

Nancy has used blue paint to alter the  white flowers to match her layout. She simply put a small amount of blue paint into a spray bottle, and watered it down. Nancy said she was very pleasantly surprised at how well the paint took to the flowers. This is a very inexpensive alternative to buying ready made spray inks.

And, lastly, another beautiful mixed media layout by Elena. Elena is the queen of mixed media, and on this layout she has used lots of awesome paints and inks to completely change the look of her flowers.

Elena has been very inventive here. She has removed the centres of some of the flowers, and added them as the centre of others, giving a pretty 2 toned look to the flowers.

MHC Products used:  Celeste – white, Ashlee – white, Mia – green, Meadows- white.

We hope our post has inspired you to have  a go at altering some flowers for yourself. You can see the gorgeous results.

Happy crafting

Designer spotlight – Elena Olinevich

Elena shares a little about herself, and her wonderful style  ‘Only 2 years ago, I was scared of creating a 12 x 12 layout, I only ever made cards. But, I wanted to give layouts a try, and now, am completely addicted to them, and havn’t looked back.  I have experimented alot with my layouts, exploring steam punk, grunge, and mixed media, and am very happy now as I think I have managed to find my own, unique style. I love alot of detail, and layering, combined with mixed media techniques. I am a quiet, gentle person, and I think that also brings a femine feel to my works also’.

MHC Products: Glitter mini roses, Mayglo – pink, Springtime – lavender, Ruffles, Idyllic – pink.

Old and New – Step by Step with Trudi

Hello Everyone!

Today I have mixed things up a bit.  Previous Spring,  Summer and Winter releases have been combined with some of the newly released Spring 2012 along with papers from the The ScrapCake Summer City.

We are also going to play with some colour – I hope you enjoy putting this together as much as I did.

For my layout ‘Laughter’, I have incorporated the following:

MHC Products:  Kyeesha – Orange & Yellow, Party Time – Anniversary, Petite Roses – Melon

Spring 2012 Release: Wild Rose – Sherbet, Powder Puff

The ScrapCake: Summer City – Blue Moon, Paradise, Banana Boat

Other Materials:  Contrast patterned paper (stars), Mask, Texture Paste, Glimmer Mists – Chalkboard Black & Turquoise Blue, Butterflies (Collections), Sentiment Rub Ons (Kaisercraft)

We are going to start by doing a little background altering.

Cut 5 strips from the Paradise patterned paper – cut one a little wider than the other 4.  Attach the wider one first with the grey side facing upwards and the others orange side up to background Blue Moon paper in a similar arrangement.

Add some masking detail –  I used a Twiddleybitz Chevron Template along with some texture paste.

Add some random misting – I first used Chalkboard Black

Turquoise Blue was then applied over the top.

Cut some thin strips from another contrasting patterned paper and attach in a similar arrangement.

**Another idea – Instead of thin strips of patterned paper Washi Tape or similar would also work well for this step.**

Cut out 3 of the circle elements from the Banana Boat patterned paper, arrange and attach

**Tip – Attach with foam tape to add a little dimension**

Position and attach photo.

Now for some flower fun!

Separate the petals of the Kyeesha Orange flower so that there are 3 petals.

Also separate the Kyeesha yellow flower but only remove the back petal.

Position and attach the larger orange and yellow petals to the left of the photo.

Colour mist the 3 larger white flowers from the Party Time mix turquoise blue.

Attach one on top of the orange  petal and another one to the side of it.

Create the rest of the cluster with blue flowers from Party Mix, Wild Rose, Petite Roses, Powder Puff and the centre of the orange Kyeesha petal.

Position and attach the middle orange Kyeesha petal underneath the bottom of the photo.  Add the third misted Party Time flower, another Powder Puff and the of the centre yellow Kyeesha petal.

Position a larger butterfly in the bottom flower cluster and place 2 smaller ones in a position which suits.

Add some black and white sentiment rubons

And you are done!!

Happy Creating!!

Goodmorning, we do hope you are all having a fabulous weekend, no matter where you are. Maybe you are lucky enough to be having a creative, scrappy weekend, and if so, then we have the post for you. Our new design team girls have been hard at work, and have created some truly stunning projects to share with you today…

Elena has created a wonderful, mixed media style layout, and has given the flowers a soft shabby look, by randomly painting some GESSO over them.

This next, delightfully cute layout is from Yuka.
