Some glitz and glamour

The new Manor House Creations collection is inspired by all the glitz and glamour that is the epitome of the Great Gatbsy era. When I think of the 20′s the first thing that pops into my head is the amazing head pieces that are so typical of the time.

Alicia Barry-Free choice-Great Gatsby head piece 1

To create this piece, I started with a piece of dyed vintage lace which I hot glued to a flexible headband. I added a strip of the gorgeous new Lavish bling trim from the winter collection along with goose and peacock feathers. Finally I finished off with some very glamorous red razzle blossoms.

Alicia Barry-Free choice-Great Gatsby head piece 2

MHC supplies used: Lavish bling trim, Peacock feathers: red, ivory. Goose feathers: Roaring 20′s mix, Razzles: red.

There you have it, simple but so effective. Perfect for a party, or for dress ups, or just to feel pretty.

Shabby chic ‘off the page’ with Elena

Today, we have a stunning, shabby chic, spring inspired creation from ELENA. This beautiful key holder is so so pretty, we love the fresh green tones, with just a touch of Gesso, to give the whole piece a gorgeous shabby feel.

ElenaOTPMain

Elena tells us a little about her project ‘When I found these polka dots Maja Design papers, I definitely knew they would be perfect to use with the Mayglo – green flowers

ElenaOTP1

I adhered the papers to the wooden box and started adding the embellishments and flowers. The white Meadows flowers add a lovely soft touch, while the Green Mayglo adds a spring freshness.

ElenaOTP2

I just added a bit of gesso on the flowers and over the papers to maintain the shabby look of this box.’

Happy crafting

‘Effortlessly beautiful’ with Karen Shady

Hi everyone, and a big warm welcome to our blog today.

I have had this frame sitting in my cupboard for a long time, not really knowing what I wanted to do with it. Then I got a new photo of my daughter, that I thought made her look very lady like.  She is a farm girl through and through, and these photos of her all dressed up are few and far between, as you can tell by the other 2 photos Ive used, lol, so I made the most of the photo, and created this very feminine, vintage style frame. I am really happy with how it turned out

Altered and amazing

Hi, and welcome to our blog today. You will be so glad you called in, as we have a very special treat for you from the incredibly talented Joanne Bain. Just take a look at these stunning creations

* * *

Joanne shares  ”This was one of those fake book type boxes that you can get to hide keys and other valuables in, in you bookcase. Well not anymore…lol. It is now what I call a Vintage Trinket Box.

Jo altered box

I scraped a little of the glitter away from the mini roses to make them

This second, stunning project began its life as a hanging glass votive or as I would say a hanging glass Tea Light holder. Anyway when I purchased them I knew what I wanted to do with it and that was to make it into a bird nesting ball…lol. So it no longer hangs and is now firmly attached to a candelabra. I wanted to create a shabby icy feel to this one so I white washed lightly a lot of what went onto it.

JO.. tea light holder

Jo tea light detail 1

I have used the feathery Fascinating white bloom as the floor inside the glass ball. I scraped away a lot of the glitter from the Capri flowers, I then painted with gesso to give them a soft wintery feel. I also pulled apart some
of them to make some smaller flowers by scrunching them

Jo tea light detailo 2

I pulled apart the Winter Song Ice Crystals White flower and used only the bottom section and nestled one of the Capri flowers to the centre so it was not quiet so big. I also slightly white washed the blue Dahlias to tone them
down just a little so they would blend nicely with the Winters Song Snowbird bloom.

Designer spotlight – Linda Langes

Today, we have some wonderful creations from the amazingly talented Linda Langes. Linda is one of our card-making specialists.

Linda tells us a little about her style, and the inspiration behind her gorgeous projects  ’I love lots of layers and pretty things – flowers, ribbons, bling,
glitter and swirls to name a few. My projects for this month were created with
a purpose – the “S” box I filled with goodies for my sister who hosted
Christmas this year and the Tussie Mussie I will fill with chocolates for my
daughter for Valentine’s Day. No matter what I create or what techniques I play
with I can’t help but keep things fairly neat and tidy – that’s my “default”
setting, shall we say lol.

Designer spotlight – Heather McMahon

Hi, and welcome.

Continuing our month long designer spotlight, today, we are featuring some of Heather McMahons lovely work.

Heather shares a little about her style, and about how she goes about creating her wonderful creations.

***

I don’t think I have a particular style as I am constantly trying out different techniques and products. If anything, my layouts tend to be textural and often arty. I use a lot of mists, chipboard, haberdashery items and, of course, flowers. I tend to make several layouts in one style as I experiment with it, then discover something else and head down a different path. I love variety and am very focussed on colour.

* * *

So Japanese (2)

I used two full sheets of 12 x 12 paper to make the fan background. I have attached a sheet of chipboard to the back for strength. I incorporated a wire crane from a card I bought In Japan and added trails and “leaves” using a Japanese-style ribbon. I even added small chopsticks.

Above all though, I think the gorgeous Manor House flowers make the page. They’re so elegant and the colours work beautifully.

1951

I love this photo of my mum when she was a girl. She lived on a farm and loved it. Mum’s favourite colour is purple so, even though it’s a colour I don’t use a lot, I decided to make it in purple for her. I’m glad I did as I love the result! I covered wire in florists’ tape then hot glued the Manor House Creations flowers to it. The birds are cut from the Manor House packaging.

Elena shares some of her tips for making this wonderful wreath, ‘ I covered the wreath by wrapping some linen around a chipboard shape, I made some canvas bows, and gessoed randomly over them. I also misted the wreath with some starbust mist, which has added a pretty shimmer to it. I finished off by adding some festive, silver balls.’
