There are three responses to a piece of design — yes, no, and WOW! WOW is the one to aim for.

ALTERED JAR WITH MELINDA THOMPSON

Hi everyone,

Its Melinda here and I am just popping up a quick and easy step x step on how I created this altered jar.  I have been so inspired lately by glass jars.  Whatever size or style, they can make a unique piece to any home decor and can also be easy altered to suit.

I just love this colour combination… and the jar I have used here was an old coffee jar, so really you can use anything at all and it will come up looking fantastic!

Step 1 – Select your chosen mist colours.  I have used Shimmerz Coloringz in LIME IN DA COCONUT & MAMA SINGS THE BLUES

Step 2 – Generously spray inside the jar against the glass with the first colour. Swirl it around until you get the drips and splattered look (doesn’t have to be perfect)  and then spray your second colour repeating the same process.

Step 3 - Now using some UNDER THE SEA Blingz from Shimmerz, I used a paint brush and ran it around the rim of the jar and let big thick drips run down.  Just a tip, if you have any excess mist sitting in the bottom of the jar, don’t tip it out, pour it into a spare mist bottle or jar and now you have a unique mist colour to use on another project! Or how amazing would the colour be on any Manor House flower!!

I then used some Enamalz in GOLD DIGGER also from Shimmerz for some extra sparkle and to soak up any extra moisture.

Step 4 -  Add your twine around the neck of your jar.

Step 5 – With your chipboard accent, gently apply some Gesso before you add any colour..this acts like a barrier between the chipboard and the top coat of colour.  Once that is dry add your colour.  I have used some Pearlz GREEN WITH ENVY from Shimmerz.

Step 6 – Now comes the fun part….adding your embellishments.   I have altered a gorgeous Manor House flower – COUNTRY LANE with some GREEN WITH ENVY Pearlz from Shimmerz.  Gently dab your paint brush over the petals and centre of the flower. By adding a little bit of colour to your flowers, ties it all together.

Step 7 – Just keep adding until you are happy with what you see!   I have also used a couple of green SPRINKLE flowers and an aqua PARTY TIME flower.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks so much for visiting!
