Step by Step layout from Gerry

Hello everyone!

It`s Gerry here today with my step x step layout for March. I chose working with beautiful spring colors. “My Private Happiness” collection combined with gorgeous new MHC flowers makes the perfect combination.

And this is my layout that I`m going to show you how to create. You understand it`ll be a long post today so please take your time :-)

Flowers I used:

STEP 1
Love creating on white card stock because it gives me a lot of possibilities to play with the background. In this case I chose two colors paint. The yellow was misted but as you can see I have only tiny splashes of  blue here and there . And I added splashes of yellow as well.

STEP 2

One of the pattern papers in “My Private Happiness” has a beautiful lattice. Well I couldn`t just “leave” it and I decided to fussy cut it and use it on my background.

STEP 3

In the middle of the layout I masked those bricks with modeling paste. When it was dry I noticed I didn`t achieve the dimension I wanted so I decided to add something more…..and I added puffy paint.

N.B. Before I added the puffy paint I outlined the “bricks” with black fine liner.

If you look carefully the photo half of the masking is only with modeling paste and the other half is with puffy paint. I took that photo especially to show you the difference :-)

STEP 4

  • Firstly, I distressed the edges of the card stock.
  • Secondly, I cut out flourish from the pattern paper.
  • I also cut out strips from the pattern paper so I can frame “my bricks”
  • Then I placed my two photos on the left side just to see how it`d look like
  • I was satisfied and I attached  1. the “frame” 2. the photos and 3. the flourish

STEP 5

  • Before I began with the flowers I used punched border to decorate both the flourish above and my photos.
  • I adhered the title “Easter” on the punched border.
  • Now it was time to use one of the big flowers (“Frosting”) – I needed the pink one so I tore/cut it in parts.
  • Just for your information what I tried to create with those punched borders was little balconies :-) with flowers and eggs peeking out of the balcony.

All the petals were used to decorate the cut-out flourishes.

STEP 6

Now it`s time for the colorful Sprinkles. I chose 6 flowers in total

  •  Three to decorate this cute basket (on the right side of the photos) and three for the left side of the photos.
  • N.B. The yellow flower on the right and the green on the left side were cut into two!!!

STEP 7

  • The yellow and green halves I used to decorate my other cute basket.
  • I also added the Cutie Pie flower in the middle.
  • Then I adhered the year “2011″

STEP 8

As a final touch to the flowers I added one more Cutie Pie flower on the very left side.

STEP 9

My last step was to add some cut out embellishments – bird, swirls, etc.

I hope you enjoyed my Step by Step layout this month. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Thank you!

In the spotlight…..

HI everyone! Wow, well today we are blessed with some fabulous creations from some extraordinary talent from 3 scrapping superstars - Karola Witczak, Steph Devlin & Gerry Van Gent (our very own DT educator).  Just take a look at these……

Lets start with this gorgeous layout from Steph, that features not only our ‘Grandma’s Garden – Handkerchief’ flower but also papers from ‘The Bright Side of Life’ – the ScrapCake collection.

Products used:  The Bright Side of Life collection. MHC flower: Grandma’s garden – Handkerchief.

And Karola always amazes us with her details and designs, just like this one…

Products used: Ballroom – Waltz, Cutie pies.

We love that these girls have chosen to use MHC flowers for their projects – thankyou ladies! They look amazing!

Gerry showing us her style.

Gerry always puts such love into her layouts. This is obvious by the way she spends so much time fussy-cutting and layering all the pieces of her projects and here she has shown us once again, the love for her work. This breath-taking layout uses some of our Taneisha flowers, which are proving pretty populat due to how easily they tuck into a flower arrangement to add that extra little something.

Take a look at this masterpiece…

Gerry has actually pulled the Romance – swetehart rose apart to make a smaller rose and The Taneisha are so easy to just tuck into the egdes of other flowers  – they are so delicate with the whispery grass seed stem and transparent leaves.

The Cutie pies are so cute at just 3cm and make the perfect finishing touch to layouts by adding some extra little highlights – great for ‘filler’ flowers.

Misting technique with Gerry

Today we have a breath-taking layout to show you, created by one of our ‘Ladies of the House’ – the amazing GERRY.

‘Summer 2004′

Gerry has taken the ‘Summer at the Seaside’ collection from The ScrapCake and used it to make this layout with the most gorgeous of colour-schemes. Gerry, as some of you know, is so clever at fussy-cutting, with amazing detail, but she also manages to make the colours of the rainbow blend together effortlessly. Here, Gerry shows how she created the background of the layout.

Gerry has used 4 different colours here, including 3 mists with a chicken wire template. The pink splots can be made by either shaking your bottle up to fill it with air bubbles or by dripping or flicking it onto your page. The edges were inked aroung the badge shape.

You can see how Gerry has used an embossing tool to make the little boats sit up and become very 3-dimensional. And we love the layered title idea. Did you notice the misted fish net? And the edges of the fish net done with white puffy paint? Now there’s an original idea….

Again Gerry has embossed the little clouds and the octopu,s and look at the little gemstones. And there is that famous fussy-cutting. We love the way she has cut out a photo of her baby and layered it into the fish net. It just all works so beautifully.

And the final touch, a Fantasy – Magic flower. The perfect finish to an inspiring page!

Thankyou Gerry for such an inspirational project.  Why not give it try yourself and see what you can come up with? We’d love to see it and feature it on our gallery. Send you layouts to designteam@manorhousecreations.com
