Mixed media and flowers

Adding mixed media to our scrapbooking projects enables each project to take on a life of its own.

For those of you asking ‘what is mixed media?’, the fact is, you have probably been creating mixed media projects already, without even knowing it actually has a name. Mixed media simply means,  adding other products or mediums, such as paint, ink, fabric, metal, chalk, texture paste, or pretty much any other artistic medium, to your creations.

Lene’s layout shows various ways to add ink to your background paper. She has also added some texture paste, and string to her layout and then – our favourite bit, she has altered the flower with inks and sprays.

Lene has sprayed several coloured inks to her background paper, the ink drops are achieved by simply dropping the ink directly from the straw of the spray nozzle.

Nerrida has done 2 projects – the first a layout where she has incorporated just a little texture paste by scraping it across the surface of a chipboard brick wall. Once dry, she has then added some grungey-looking brown ink to it. You may notice she’s also sprayed the background cardstock with mist.

The flower from the Winters Song collection, has been altered using some Shimmerz ’Gold Digger’  Enamelz. You just paint the flowers with dabs of paint and then sprinkle it on.

The smaller flowers has also been painted with Shimmerz and she has mixed the gold Enamelz in with the paint for a very shimmery effect.

This next project from Nerrida is of two little 3″ canvases. Her daughter wanted some purple in her new bedroom, so this was Nerrida’s way of incorporating just a little punch of colour.

This first easel has a layer of texture paste, again used with the brick wall chipboard, then while still wet, she has sprinkled it with The Shimmerz gold Enamelz.  Shimmerz Blingz paint has then been scraped around the edges of the canvas with her finger.

The purple flower has been misted with Shimmerz mist and the pink flower partially painted with pink Glimmer Glam. The Petite rose inked with a little purple.

Very cleverly, Nerrida has then used the chipboard wall that she scrapped the texture paste along, as an embellishment for the next easel.  Again the pink flower is Glimmer Glam-ed and the other flower misted with 2 different sprays – Mon Shari & Bed of Roses.

Altered canvas easels by Nerrida Mitchell.

Products used: Kyeesha, Winters song – Embers, Idyllic – pink & white, Petite roses – marshmellow and soft pink.

It is such a wonderful and personal way to say thank you to your Mum. The talented design team have come up with some gorgeous ideas to help you with deciding on what to give to your Mum this Mothers day.

Our latest flower release ‘Party time’ is bright, glittery and all things fun, just perfect for creating birthday layouts, gifts and cards, if fact its perfect for any type of party. Our team of talented designers have created some wonderful examples of how they have used the ‘Party time’ collection. I hope they inspire you to pull out those party photos, grab some of our flowers, and create.

JOANNE BAIN has created these gorgeous little gift boxes. Here she tells us all about them,

‘I have created a raspberry & liquorice cupcake topped with a gorgeous hot pink Birthday blossom and then made a super sweet goodie box topped again with another hot pink Birthday blossom. They both have a small tag that pulls out so that you can write your birthday wishes or anything else you wish to write. To give these flowers a bit of extra dimension I have placed small square 3D dot under each petal.’

DT favourites

Hi everyone! This month we wanted the girls to get really creative with their very own flavour or style of scrapbooking, so we asked each to create a project using their most favourite flowers from our ranges.  Let’s start with this layout, which you’ve already seen in the tutorial the other day, from the fabulous Joanne.

 Layout by Joanne Bain.

The BLOSSOMS are my favourite flowers as they come in a variety of colours and I also love the fact that they are smaller and come in 2 different sizes. They are perfect to use as they are or to build your own flowers as I have.
Products used: Blossoms – Avoca.

‘Dear Friend’ card by Linda Langes.
Linda says: “I adore the Sugar and Spice flowers because they’re so soft and light and you can fluff them up just beautifully on your card or layout. But, they also smoosh down when that card or layout needs to go in an envelope or album….just perfect!”
Products used: Sugar & spice - blue & pink.

Next we have one from Monika – don’t you love the birght yellow!
Layout by Monika Martinson.
Products used: Kyeesha (World vision), Country Lane – Quaint, Taneisha.
Monika says: “It is almost impossible to choose ONE favorite flower from Manor House as I really love ALL of them. But if I have to the Taneisha flower branches would be my choice. They are perfect in each flower combination both in shape, color and mostly the size that fit perfectly on my A4′s!”

LENE has created another stunner in that style we know from her so well.
‘Remember’ by Lene Neby.
Products used: Cutie Pies – teal, Country lane – Quaint, Taneisha, oak leaves – light green.
LENE says: I love the Taneisha & the Cutie Pies – they are both my favourites!

NERRIDA had used some of our first release flowers for this fantastic double-layout.
‘Tell me a story’ by Nerrida Mitchell.
Products used: The Tropics – Sunset, Islander & Seaside, Magestic – Gemma, Fantasy – Moonlight.
Nerrida says: My favourites are The Tropics – they remind me so much of where I love to holiday in Australia – the tropical north coast and I love the vibrant colours – something different for me as I usually use softer colours and PINK!

Which are your favourite? Please let us know by way of a comment! We love your feedback.

Gift bag step x step from Lene.

Are you stressing over last minute gifts for some loved ones?  Lene has created this quick and easy birthday gift bag which could be easily adapted to a Christmas gift, filled with sweets or chocolates – always brings a smile to someone’s face.

1. You start with a small brown paper bag and some patterned paper.

2. Glue on the patterned paper to the brown bag and add half a paper doilie.

3. I love this little white fence, so I choose to use one on the bag.

4. Add on some flowers – I just love these!

5. Here I have used some journaling pieces and written something on them.

6. Make some holes on the top and use a beautiful ribbon to make it perfect. The giftbag is ready !
